The History of HC Salem!
|Thursday, January 10, 2019|
HC Salem from Kazakhstan are a very passionate bunch. They sure do love their hockey and are always looking to make new friends.
They recently sent us a write-up about the history of their team, and it's great to see people being united through passion for the game.
Check it out below!
"In the distant 1970's, none of us, even in our wildest dreams, could imagine that years later, we would be able to play our favourite game at the CARHA Hockey World Cup! And not anywhere, but in Canada - the homeland of hockey!
We could still imagine the games we grew up watching between Canada and the USSR in 1972. Being boys, we wanted to be like Phil Esposito, Valeria Kharlamov or Ken Dryden. They played hockey in their backyards, made their own form, poured ice. Despite the fact that we have long been adults and many of us have grandchildren, we gathered again five years ago to once again plunge into this hockey sea of fire and youth enthusiasm.
The history of the amateur hockey club "SALEM" began in 2013, when they gathered like-minded people seeking to learn the secrets of hockey skills and at the same time enjoy this wonderful game. The club is named after the children's yard district club "SALEM", the colours of which defended many of the current veterans of the club in the distant seventies, taking part in urban tournaments for the Golden Puck prize.
In just a couple of months, several enthusiasts and hockey game lovers, seeking to remember something from their childhood, have grown into a really solid team. The backbone of our team is made up of people connected by long-time relationships, so we easily find understanding on the ice and in life. The ages of the players are 40-60 years.
The CARHA Hockey World Cup tournament unites teams and amateurs from many corners of the globe to share their great affection for this game. Attracting from 2,500 to 3,000 participants from 15 or more countries, the CARHA Hockey World Cup (CHWC) has become the world's largest international hockey tournament for adults. Every four years since 1996, it is hosted in a selected Canadian city. This week-long event provides adult hockey players from around the world the opportunity to strive for excellence thanks to teamwork and fair play.
We are so excited to be back at the CARHA Hockey World Cup once again in 2020 in Richmond. We can't wait to see old faces and make new friends, to see the city, and to enjoy the world's greatest game."
