The 7th Ranked Nation in the IIHF

Over the next few months, we're going to be posting country features on all of our attending countries for the 2020 CARHA Hockey World Cup in Richmond, British Columbia.

We thought we'd start with Switzerland!

Switzerland is a founding member of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). Switzerland currently sits at seventh place in the world according to the IIHF. Switzerland has taken home Bronze at the Olympics for hockey twice, in the 16 times they have competed. Switzerland is home to the professional hockey league, the National League (NL). The NL has the most attended hockey club in Europe - SC Bern.

It is only natural that Switzerland is an international top contender in hockey as it is their national sport. Switzerland has just about 27,000 people registered in hockey, which is the seventh most in the world. Switzerland has sent 37 players to the National Hockey League (NHL) so far, most recently first overall pick of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, Nico Hischier.
