In an era when the quality of play in women’s hockey has grown to unprecedented heights, so too has the level of competition. Such an unparalleled level of play has extended to recreational players and adults over the age of 40, enabling them an opportunity to appreciate how the residual warmth of the rink fosters a sense of friendship.

A year and a half ago, on a whim, we decided to make a rather drastic change at Jewels from the Crown, and it's perhaps my favorite thing we've ever done on the blog: Dragulji iz Krone. In short, we switched from the Los Angeles Kings to Slovenia for the duration of the 2014 Winter Olympics, and we were amazed by both Slovenia's performance and by the fans from Slovenia who we interacted with.
It is said that a soccer player might run as far as seven miles during the course of a 90-minute match, so it makes sense that players in that sport train in the offseason by running.
When it comes to hockey, however, there is an actual debate to be had: should an adult trying to stay in shape for hockey do so by running?
We checked in with a few different trainers to see what they have to say:

How many people does it take to make it possible for you to play hockey?
We all love to play hockey and we all play for our own reasons, maybe it’s to stay healthy and active, maybe it’s to satisfy your competitive edge, perhaps you keep coming back to hang out with friends or bond outside of the office with coworkers or maybe it’s a nostalgia for glory days passed, whatever the case, it doesn’t just happen.

Despite the fact that men’s league hockey is supposed to be recreational we all know good and well that these games can get super competitive and that the hockey is still played on a fairly high level. Everybody comes in guns blazing to win and it’s the guys who regularly train who bring a performance edge with them to the ice.
Norm Price is at it again. For the third year in a row, Price has spent hours building, maintaining and spreading the word about a massive public skating rink on his northeast property. The Herald’s Annalise Klingbeil spoke to Price about his ice, located on the outskirts of the city, on 84th Street near Stoney Trail.
