With an estimated number of 60-75 officials required, CARHA Hockey’s selection process will be based on two factors. First, 50% of the officials selected will come from the Host Province. Second, the remaining 50% will be allocated on a pro-rated system. For example, the number of applications received from a Province divided by the total number of applications (omitting the Host Province) equals the percentage of chosen referees from that select province. We will then take that percentage and multiply it by the remaining available spots to determine the number of referees by province that will be selected to participate in the 2020 CARHA Hockey World Cup. CARHA Hockey will use a random draw / lottery format giving each applicant an equal chance to participate.
Further to this, any referee who wishes to be considered must be a CARHA Hockey registered member prior to September 30, 2019 and has completed the Referee Online Quiz.
We will begin soliciting interest from our member referees typically one year out from the tournament start date. As the CARHA Hockey World Cup is a highly sought after event to officiate, we receive more interest than required positions. So, based on the aforementioned percentage format, we will allocate spots based on the number of teams that are registered from the particular province/country that the referees reside.
